Ladies and gents

As you may be aware there has been a spate of account hacks within the Roos.

Some tips to reduce likelihood.

Change your password NOW.

Surest but will cost you - Buy an authenticator or get a mobile app.

Cheap and easy - have your password typed on a word document with other text. when logging in copy and paste this rather than typing your password.

Always - when logging on don't have any other web based apps running especially web browsers and forums.

I'm one of the lucky few who got hacked.
It's a wakeup call so now I do just about all Pre suggested.
I have ordered an authenticator and it will probably be here before I get my gear back ( 8 days and counting for the gear ).
I also went to an online password generator site and had it generate a totally random pw for me THEN swapped it around and changed it because I am now paranoid, c & p into a notepad txt file which I gave a random name and I ctrl c . ctrl v my new pw into wow.
I also have updated versions of Malwarebytes, avg ( both free ) and Kaspersky running all the time. I have also changed my WoW registered email address and use a random pw on that as well.

On another note, there have been some random ingame mails arriving offering Cataclysm Tests  Shocked I also got one of THEM !!
They are obviously fakes and designed to get your account details so you can finish up like me.

Interesting article http://www.wow.com/2010/06/07/new-issues-with-adobe-flash-google-search-links-could-compromis/ which suggests a couple of new ways accounts are being compromised. Not suggesting that this fully explains why the sudden influx of hacks but just one more trick to be aware of.

Cheers,

Gordian

BTW Gordon is not my real name, that would be a little sad yet I have been asked  ingame!. My bank mule's name is Knot.. get it ... Gordian ... Knot... seemed like a great idea at the time. Roll Eyes

Well looks like I've managed to somehow join the elite group of people who have somehow managed to get hacked.
Don't know how, where or when it happened. All I know is that last thursday logged on in the afternoon to do the daily heroic. Friday went away for the weekend. Comes Monday night all excited & ready to play & I get the following message, "The information you have entered is not valid. Please check spelling of account name & password..."
The strange part about is that I added an authenticator to the account some 2-3 weeks back, go figure!!
Blizzards answer to this is will advise in a few days, so here's hoping all will be good.

Moral of the story is... If you plan to go away for a dirty weekend, stay protected!!

Bug ger Wasa.  Be patient (as best you can).  See you when you get things sorted.

Cheers

OK possible noob here cause now I'm not entirely sure if I did have a problem or not.
Reason being that received an e-mail from Blizzard Wednesday arvo asking me to change passwords. But prior to changing my password again I was playing with the iTouch & noticed that there was a syncing button on the authenticator code screen. so like any button I see I pressed it.
Didn't see anything major happen so I continued on with changing my password.
With new 10 digit multi alpha/numerical charactor password I gave WOW another go & all ok. All looks good & Toons are all fine.

Thanks Blizzard.

Heyas!  Hope ur all keeping well and kickin butt in-and-out of game  Smiley

Just got a very sus email "informing" me that my account email address had changed and to verify my details I should click a link... I checked the html source of the message and it asked me to go to this address, for your info "blizzard.worldofwarcraft.addressverify.eu/service.htm"

Very well put together copy of the Battle.net account login page...  Beware!  Needless to say do not paste this into your browser and enter your information... It will be recorded by some nefarious internet types and you can consider your account security breached.

Cyas around Cataclysm eh Cheesy
