I don't know if this is the right spot or not, but I have a few questions that people here may be able to answer.

I have Tauren shaman who uses a mace and when i use any other weapon, regardless of it's stats, i get almost zero attack. Some weapons it says i can't use YET. Can i eventually use them, or should I just keep going with my maces as i seem to have built up exp points with maces.

Also, is it possible to change profession? Once i have selected 2 professions, can i later change them and how?

Thanks for the help!

Weapons have a rating that increases as you use them, so when you start using a new weapon type it will have a low rating. The rate that the rating goes up is not linear so learning a new weapon does not take too long to get it to a usable level.

Different weapon types can be learnt from the weapon masters in the major capitals, the guards will tell you the way.

You can unlearn professions, but I am not 100% sure how to do this.

To unlearn a profession,

Open your Skills tab.
Scroll to the top "Primary Skills"
look for the profession you want.
To the right side of the profession, there is a small red circular button. Press it.
Confirm that you want to drop this profession

Ok, here comes my next set of probably noobish questions.

1. A friend of mine gave me some gold when i started playing and now that I'm at lvl 20, I'm broke again. My question is, what are some good ways to make money? I don't have much time to play, only about an hour or so at a time at odd intervals so I can't really do raids and instances. Should I just kill everything in sight and sell everything I get, or is working on my profession going to earn me more cash?

2. I have a lvl 20 tauren shaman with skinning+leatherworking, a lvl 11 orc hunter with herbalism+alchemy, a lvl 9 undead warlock with tailoring+enchanting and a lvl 1 tauren warrior with nothing yet but will probably be mining+blacksmithing/engineering. Are any of these professions inherently more profitable than others? Naturally I have spent more time on my shaman and his leatherworking is up to around 145, but i'm still only just breaking even with the stuff that i sell to cover the cost of extra materials i need to make the stuff that will advance my skill. Will this change in future, will my leather products become more valuable as I advance in skill, or will the extra materials i need become more costly at a proportional rate? Should I spend my time advancing another skill?

As for making money, your key areas are your gathering professions.  Herbalism, Mining and skinning.  Take what you gather and sell it on teh AH.  This is the easiest way to make money that I know of.  The crafting professiosn (Blacksmithing, enigineering, tailoring, alchemy) are not really profitable at lower levels.  You can also sell greens and grey that you pick up off mobs.  That brilliant feather might not be worth much, but you might get 20 or so while doing a quest, that adds up.  Pick up everything that you can from a mob and vendor what you can.  As for enchanting, it is slightly to the side.  It is profitable (in general the crafting professions are not, alchemy can be) but not at low lvls.

I hope that helps.  I do so like to be helpful.

Ah right, so the money at lower levels is in selling what you can gather. But are people actually going to buy light leathers or medium leathers on the AH? I guess someone might.

The other question I have which I forgot to ask earlier is this: As a leatherworker I can currently make a 6 slot kodo hide bag, but i don't see any bigger bags on the training list. My tailor can make a 6 slot linen bag and soon will be able to make an 8 slot and i think a 10 or 12 slot bag. Is there any way I can make bigger bags with leather? I have been checking the AH every now and then and I don't see any patterns for bags come through. Do they exist? Are they hard to find?

P.S. Thanks heaps for your help guys, it makes it a whole lot easier to find your way around when you have good info.

As Dom says making money is often through gathering rather than crafting. You may wish to consider if you want all your toons crafters or have some pure gatherers such as herbaism/skinner.

I only have 1 crafting trade and the rest of my toons just gather.

As for questions of what u can make when I suggest use Thottbot or one of the other wow websites. look up letherworking (or whatever profession) and it will have a skills list with what you can learn, when, and from who (or where the pattern drops).

That way if there is a certain pattern u want from a trainer u can work toward getting to that trainer/pattern through exploration or Rep Grinding.

As far as I know the largest bag for general use that a leatherworker can make is the 6 slot kodo bag.  You can make larger leatherworker/skinner type bags but they can only hold leather and such.
