Ok, so those of you who have been following the "Victorinox has no net" forum will know that I am having a lot of "fun" trying to get an internet connection in regional WA.  i went to a neighbour's place yesterday and after lots of issues managed to log into WOW.  They have a wireless internet connection to their home which comes in through an additional antenna on the roof.  their router/modem kept tripping out but not sure if that is a typical problem with wireless.  Once their network became stable I was able to log in and played for a bit, didn't seem to suffer from latency and everything seemed ok.

Of course this was literally a 5 minute test.

So.. i guess some of you must use wireless or have used it in the past?

Any feedback on whether to go that route or not?  Installation will cost several hundred dollars so i don't want to do it on a whim.

Cheers.

Hi

Wireless Internet, or Roaming Broad Band currently maxes at 3000kbps for dpwn load and I think 384 kbps up load.

This however is dependent of the quality of the signal i.e. it strength.

I have dealt with wireless client in Melbourne with poor signal strength and seen the speed  reduced to 10s to 100s of Bits per second.

Another issue I have seen is were the users is on the boundary between cells and gets allocated different IP addresses in a mater of seconds which forces re authentication all the time, particularly with e-mail accounts, though some providers are offering fixed IP now which over comes this issue.

My folks have wireless broadband in regional Victoria since they are too far from an exchange for ADSL. There's no inherent latency like you would find with satellite and its much like any other broadband connection, albeit slightly slower than ADSL2+. I'm not aware of any drop out problems there and I have played WoW on my laptop their many times without issue - although I've never tried instances there.
