Well, it time for some good news on the progression front, and all it took was another nerf.
This week, spanning across two days we managed to clear ToC10.
Friday: The ToC run started on Friday with numerous unsuccessful attempts on Northrend beasts, However after pulling our fingers out we managed to get the "beast" down. The second boss, aside from a few people blowing up, went down without a hitch.
Then came the stonewall. Faction champions. The first few attempts required us to refine our strategy but however, once we found the right mix of Crowd control, Survivability, and dps. We managed to get down the two healers, once they were down and our healers still alive, the rest was cake walk, picking one dps target at a time, CCing the rest we burned each Champion down with a vengeance. Finally with the last champion dead, we cheered.
Surprised at our success with Faction champions, none of us had prepared for the next fight Twin Valkyries. After taking a 5 min break to go read up and watch a video, we jumped into attempt the boss for the first time. After the initial chaos, we managed to get the boss down 10% before we wiped. Spending another few mins redefining our strat, we managed to get the boss down a further 3% and decided to call it for the night as it being 12am.
Sunday With a few small changes to the team because of availability of other players and DST, we jumped back into TOC10. Spending a further 10 mins discussing strats, watching videos and explaining the boss, we broke into the first pull. Instantly we got the boss down to 70% before the first whip. which was great considering we had a few people who hadn't seen it before. after more small revises to our strat, we broke back into the boss and got it down to 47%. with high moral we quickly rebuffed and pulled again. This time The Valk's bowed to the thunder from down under, Creating another guild first for the week.
while taking a short break to read up on the last fight, Anub, Someone decided to talk to the NPC and start off the next event. While this didn't start the boss fight, it gave us a fight as the lich king ported into the arena and after a long winded gloat, shattered the ground sending us tumbling into the abyss. after we regained our composure and moved out of the water, we resumed our study of the fight. A further 10 mins later we decided to suck-it-and-see. with a pull of the boss.
We managed to get him into the first phase 2 cycle, before we got eaten by adds. After zoning back in and falling into the abyss again, we took a further 5 mins to refine our strat. Instantly upon pulling we noticed a big difference. DPS was strong, Permafrost were doping in the right place, and adds where being picked up and moved as they spawned. After the boss dropped into phase, the raid was switched on, moved into the correct spot, and kiting the boss in an acceptable fashion. This continued for the next 3 phase changes. as the boss entered the last phase we noticed the enrage timer creeping up. After burning the boss with all we had, we managed to kill him with less that 10 seconds to go. Again, on only our second ever attempt Anub surrendered to the roos. Thus completing 3 new bosses in one week, and all with less than 5 pulls each.
Point to note. While these bosses dropped easily, we should not become complacent with our ability's. The team that went in consisted of some of our best dps, tanks and heals. and took all of our effort to get down before enrage/raid wipes. I suggest before turning up to these raids looking for easy loot, you not only read the fights, but consider if your at the level of these bosses and can bring the raid the commitment it requires.
Congrats Roos on a positive raiding week.
